Many of my clients tell me that they weigh themselves each morning. And many tell me that number on the scale sets the tone for the rest of the day – that could mean elated to completely defeated.
Somehow, we have come to think that ‘the number’ on the scale defines who we are. It’s as though it is written on our forehead for people to see. It interferes with our ability to have a positive relationship with food and it will influence how we choose to eat for the rest of the day.
In fact, it goes further than food. It influences our mood, self-esteem and self-confidence. It can affect how you feel about the person you see in the mirror. It may even impact how you interact with the people around you at home, work or school.
All of these consequences affect the quality of our life from moment to moment; day to day and year to year.
When you take a step back think about it that way, doesn’t it seem crazy that we allow it to have so much control over how we feel or the decisions we make?
What would your day look like if you didn’t start by weighing yourself in the morning?
What if the quality of your day wasn’t determined by the number on the scale? What would your day look like?
What if, instead, you consciously set the tone for the day? Choice is empowering. What if you chose to say something positive or inspiring to yourself every morning? What if you complimented yourself on one aspect of your body that you love? What if you chose to practice gratitude?
Remember, your weight should not get to determine:
- What you wear
- How you feel
- How you interact with your family, friends, and co-workers
- What you accomplish
- What goals you set
The power is within you to decide how to show up today!
